Before your treatment starts, become familiar with your benefits. Insurance companies do not normally pay the orthodontic benefit in one lump sum, but rather spread out the payments over the length of treatment. If you would like our office to submit claim forms to your insurance, we ask that you complete our Signature on File form and provide us with the name, address and telephone number of your insurance carrier.
Some insurance companies pay for orthodontic treatment that is already in progress and some do not. For proof of payment for your medical reimbursement account, you may use a copy of your canceled check or a receipt of payment provided by our office. Orthodontic insurance generally differs from regular dental insurance in that each insured individual usually has a lifetime maximum benefit for orthodontic services.
This benefit is paid as a percentage of the orthodontic fee until the benefit maximum has been reached. Some insurance plans have a waiting period before the orthodontic benefit begins. We will gladly submit initial insurance claims pertaining to charges for orthodontic care in our office. Some insurance companies do not pay the provider, but rather send payment directly to the insured.
